I am a collector, a gatherer, a teller of stories.
I use materials in unusual ways and often find them in unusual places. I love found objects, am an avid recycler, and have been known to stop on the side of the road for a treasure.
Studying nature has always been an integral part of my being. Seeing the colors of the seasons, tasting the current fruits of the harvests, absorbing the sounds and smells around me….feeling the earth and my relation to it became a passion. The world has become my palette of inspiration.
After studying art in high school and college, I became an elementary and special education art teacher. My calling for many years was in fostering and developing creative minds in challenging and oftentimes impoverished communities.
Today, I have found a way to express my own spirituality and world visions into an art form. I have discovered that mosaic art allows me the freedom to use an abundance of materials found in the natural, and often discarded, sources around the world. I strive to create unique expressions of the world we live in whether physically , politically or spiritually-based.
I have learned under the direction of international mosaic artists Maestro Verdiano Marzi, Giulio Mennosi, Ilana Shafir, Laurie Mika, Sophie Drouin, Laura Rendlen, Wendy Gray Raven, Kelley Knickerbocker, Erin Pankratz-Smith, Marian Shapiro, Sherri Warner Hunter, Rachel Sager, Sue Commbs, Sue Giannotti and metalsmith Suzanne Maris Santos.
I am a member of CMA, Contemporary Mosaic Art, SAMA, the Society of American Mosaic Artists, The Art Center of Highland Park, The Chicago Mosaic School and The American Jewish Artists Club.
I have exhibited and sold at Sedona Story, Sedona, AZ; Spertus Institute, Chicago,IL; Creative Cakes Cafe, Tinley Park, IL; Congregation Solel, Highland Park, IL; Museum of Biblical Arts, Dallas, TX,; The Art Center of Highland Park,Il; SAMA 2015 Mosaic Salon Pennsylvania, 2016 SAMA Mosaic Salon, San Diego CA., SAMA 2017 Mosaic Salon DetroitMI, SAMA 2018 Mosaic Salon Boston,MA: Mosaic Arts International 2016 at The Women's Museum of California, San Diego and Mosaic Arts International 2018 at The Boston Society of Architecture, Boston, MA.
